Turvey Cricket Club

Turvey has had a busy cricket club since at least the early 1870s - and it is still going strong today.

Cricket was originally played in front of Turvey House, then the ground was moved to Turvey Park, just off Carlton Road, after the First World War.

In 1998 Turvey Cricket Club moved to its current location in Turvey Park.

In the 1890's Turvey Cricket Club did very well in the numerous local matches.

An early photograph of

Turvey’s Cricket Team.

At this time the captain was George Edward Hopkins - the Headmaster of the National School and the choirmaster/organist of the church.

The picture on the left is from 1949.

Sadly I do not know the dates of the other images.

The Turvey Cricket Team in 1974 was comprised of:

S. Micklewright

R. Ely

J. Hague

D. Prackness

J. Taylor

R. Moore

S. George

B. Herthfield

J. Philbook

J. Letts

J. Bincyk (sp?)

R. Denton
